Life Insurance Clarity Guide
The six steps
Ordered by the decisions you actually face, not by product. Each one is the step
before it plus one more thing to understand, so they are worth reading in order the first time.

≡ Six words worth knowing first Premium, death benefit, beneficiary, term, whole life, cash value
1 What does life insurance actually do? It replaces a paycheck that stopped. That is the whole job — and it is not the reason most people say they bought it.
2 How does term life work? Cover for a set number of years. Plus the cliff at the end that almost nobody is shown.
3 How does whole life work? It never expires and costs several times as much. Here is the honest shape of the early years.
4 What about universal life, IUL and VUL? Permanent policies with moving parts. The moving parts are where people get hurt.
5 What is final expense insurance? Often available at an age when nothing else is, and two shapes sold in the same conversation.
6 Doesn’t my job already cover this? Probably a little. Almost certainly not enough, and not for as long as you think.
$ What does it actually cost? Few people know what it costs, and why no site can show you a real life insurance price table.
Ready when you are.
Step 1 is two minutes of reading and it is the one that makes the other five make sense.
Nothing on this page is a quote or an offer of coverage. What a policy costs you depends on
the policy you apply for, your age, whether you use tobacco, the amount and the number of years,
and the insurer’s own underwriting. We do not offer every policy available in your area.
