The short version

  • The standard Part B premium is projected to rise $6.60 to $209.50 a month in 2027. Most people pay it, and higher incomes pay more.
  • The 2027 Part D numbers are already set. The yearly cap on covered drug costs rises to $2,400, and the highest deductible a plan can have rises to $700.
  • The 2027 Part A and Part B figures are projections from the Medicare Trustees until Medicare announces the final amounts this fall. We update this page when it does.
  • Most people pay no Part A premium, because they or a spouse paid Medicare taxes for about 10 years.

What the table doesn't show

  • Your plan's own costs. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans set their own premiums, deductibles and copays each year. Your plan's Annual Notice of Change lists what changes for 2027.
  • Higher premiums by income. The 2027 income limits come out with the final Part B amounts. For 2026, the extra charge starts above $109,000 for one person or $218,000 on a joint return.

What each part covers, and what you pay when you use it, is on our Original Medicare page.

Benefit period
How Part A counts a hospital spell. It ends once you have been out of a hospital or nursing facility 60 days in a row.
Coinsurance
A percentage instead of a flat amount. Medicare pays 80% of a doctor's bill and leaves you the other 20%.
Copay
A flat amount you hand over at the visit. Twenty dollars to see your doctor, for example.
Deductible
What you pay yourself first, before the plan starts paying its share.
Medicare Advantage
A private plan you can choose instead. It bundles coverage and has a yearly out-of-pocket limit.
Part D
Medicare's coverage for prescription drugs. It's its own plan, or built into some Medicare Advantage plans.
Premium
What you pay every month to have the plan, whether you use it or not.
